FAQ (under construction)
What is the difference between the Suzuki Method and traditional methods?
Traditionally students learn by reading the music first. The Suzuki Method offers a different approach. Children begin as early as possible, even listening to music before birth. The music is taught by ear and through repetition. This method is modeled after the way children learn to speak their native tongue. Children hear the words, phrases, and sentences before they learn how to read them. Thus, Suzuki students learn how to play before they learn how to read the music.
Other philosophies from Shinichi Suzuki (Suzuki Method founder) include love, care and respect between the teacher, parent and student. Having fun is a critical part to the Method as well. Dr. Haruko Kataoka (Suzuki Piano School founder) says, “The Suzuki Method is a way of learning which allows students to master the material naturally and smoothly, all Suzuki students have grown to be children who genuinely love music.”
